BIM Management & Implementation
If your firm does not employ an experienced BIM expert in-house, do yourself a huge favor and hire a consultant. BIM Managers are crucial when it comes to steering the company/project team in the right direction. It is essential that you have a resource you can trust and rely on assist project architects and engineers as they adapt to the change in processes that is a result of BIM utilization.
Qualifications
Technical know-how and ability alone will not suffice when it comes to finding a good BIM Manager. BIM management requires knowledge of the whole design process and a multi-faceted skill set. Some key skills to look for include:
- Expert knowledge and proven practical background in Autodesk Revit / BIM software and awareness of new technologies
- Experience in project workflows (Schematic Design, Design Development, Construction Documentation, Construction Administration, and consultant coordination)
- Ability to persuasively communicate the benefits of BIM at all levels of design and delivery leadership
- Strong teaching and coaching skills
- Understanding of the profession and needs of a delivery team (architects, engineers, contractors, etc…)
- Experience in office template development and project standards
- Objective decision-making and troubleshooting in urgent situations
- Knowledgeable in content/family creation with ability to catalog/organize firm libraries
- Understanding of file interoperability for in-house and external project team members
Service Deliverables
The benefit of hiring a BIM Manager will vary depending on staff size, overall BIM skill-set, adaptability to change, and the short and long term internal goals. Through analysis of these factors, we define deliverables that best suit our clients and are respectful of their actual needs. We provide the following services to ensure a firm’s success with BIM:
- Firm-specific project standards, templates, and family content libraries
- In-house meetings with project teams, at the beginning of and throughout the design process when support is most needed
- Web-conferencing and screen-sharing capabilities, reducing miscommunication that may occur over the phone
- Training sessions for all levels of BIM users. These training sessions should be at least one-half to one full day in a computer lab setting
- Identification and training of BIM champions within the firm to lead the team once our service is complete. These individuals will potentially become future BIM Managers.
